Leave Our Hills Alone (LOHA) is a community-led group formed to protect Dalmacallan Hill and the surrounding landscape from Vestas’ proposed wind farm development.

Dalmacallan Hill is home to a residential community, while Dalmacallan Forest, valued for its diverse plant life and wildlife, is a well-used walking area enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike.

The hill forms a prominent part of the ridge surrounding the village of Moniaive and contributes significantly to the distinctive bowl-shaped landscape of the Glencairn Valley.

The proposed development would introduce exceptionally large wind turbines into this landscape. It is also one of several wind energy developments proposed or already consented across the wider area. LOHA is concerned that, when considered together, these developments could create what local campaigners describe as a “ring of steel” around Moniaive, fundamentally changing the character of the surrounding hills and transforming a predominantly rural landscape into one increasingly dominated by large-scale energy infrastructure.

For the communities who live within and value this landscape, the concern is not simply about one development in isolation. It is about the cumulative and potentially irreversible transformation of the Glencairn Valley and the hills that define it.
